Okonomiyaki Recipe

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup dashi stock (or water)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 head cabbage, shredded
  •   meat or seafood you have on hand
  •   Okonomi sauce (or ketchup and Worchestershire sauce)
  •   Japanese mayonnaise
  •   Furikake
  •   Bonito flakes (flakes of dry skipjack tuna)


  1. Mix your dry ingredients in a large bowl, add a pinch of salt.
  2. Mix in the liquid and the egg, whisk until your batter has no lumps.
  3. Add the shredded cabbage and mix the batter until it well blended together.
  4. Add seafood or leftover meats to batter now and mix it all
  5. Heat some oil in a non-stick pan or griddle.
  6. Make a nice sized ball of batter on the griddle and press it out to make the 'pancake'. Turn the heat down to medium-high keep an eye to make sure it doesn't burn.
  7. When the bottom is browned to your liking, flip it over and cook the other side.
  8. When done, plate it up and drizzle on Okonomi sauce and mayo. Top with the furikake and/or bonito flakes and enjoy. You can also eat this with steamed rice,
